Music Director: David William Reif
David W. Reif was appointed Music Director of the CCCB in March, 2004. He currently teaches general music, chorus and handbells at Radnor Middle School in Wayne, PA. He was the co-director of the Delaware Valley Young Musician's Orchestra 2000-2010. David taught band and orchestra at George Washington High School in Philadelphia, and prior to that, taught band at Rising Sun High School, in North East, Maryland. During his tenure at RSHS, he dramatically increased the size and quality of the band program. During this time, David also directed the Delaware Blue/Gold All-Star Marching Band, sponsored by the Delaware Foundation for Children with Cognitive Disabilities.
In 1992, David graduated Cum Laude from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Music Education and received his Master of Music in Horn Performance in 1999. He studied piano with Benjamin Whitten and Michael Steinberg and horn with Francis Orval and Cynthia Carr. In 1989, he attended the Annual Horn Symposium in Munich, Germany and the International Horn Course, in Budapest, Hungary. Additionally, David has earned 24 graduate credits through the University of the Arts at Villanova University. Highlights include: Instrumental Conducting and the Art of Expressive Phrasing with Jerry Nowak and Band Methods with Quincy Hilliard. David won national auditions to play horn at EPCOT in Walt Disney's 1991 All American College Orchestra conducted by James Christensen. Preparing for three different shows a day taught him that music needs to appeal to both the audience and the performers alike. His musical selections for the CCCB reflect this philosophy and he designs his rehearsals to be productive, rewarding, professional and fun.
